Is There a Supplement to Increase Height in Children?

QUESTION:

Hello !
I am a mother of 10 year old girl & my daughter is one of the shortest in her class. Although I do tell her that height doesn't matter, the other kids can sometimes be cruel. Is there any supplements I can give her to boost her height.

Please advise.

ANSWER:

Hi Kaka, and thank you for your question regarding supplements to increase height in kids.

Firstly, your daughter still hasn't hit puberty yet and this is the time when they grow the most. There are specific nutrients that help with growth and development, such as calcium, magnesium, boron, folic acid, EFA's, etc, but I would caution giving high amounts of any of these to a 10 year old. What you can certainly do, however, is give your daughter a good quality children's multi vitamin and mineral supplement every day. There is no harm in doing this (only healthy benefits). Once she gets to around 16 years of age you can then look at adult dosages. Girls do tend to grow fastest between the ages of 12 to 15 and your daughter isn't there yet.

Hope this helps you Kaka.

Good luck and all the best to you,

Regards

Troy.
