Do you have any helpful natural remedies for fluid retention and edema?

I tend to get very swollen, especially my legs and ankles, when I walk or stand for long periods of time. Also when it's too hot I tend to retain a lot of fluid.

Now, in regards to your edema. There are some excellent natural remedies that can easily treat this problem. Here are the top 7 you may like to consider...

#1. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA): This is definitely choice number one. Alpha lipoic acid works a treat for fluid retention, and it works virtually 100% of the time and for 100% of people! It only takes around 3-4 days to get rid of edema completely. Take one to two 600 mg capsules daily until your swelling is gone. After that, just continue with one capsule daily. #2. Apple Cider Vinegar: ACV also works extremely well for edema. It's high levels of potassium and anti-inflammatory properties help to reduce fluid retention without any harmful effects whatsoever. Just make sure you purchase organic ACV and it still contains the "mother" apple (very important). One to two tablespoons in a glass of warm filtered water 3 times daily (just before food) is best. If you can't handle the taste of the liquid, go with the capsules instead.

#3. Magnesium: Feet and leg edema is usually connected to a magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is vital for the controlling of fluid within the body. Fluid Retention Remedies - Free fluid in the stomach cavity...

Hi, I am a cancer sufferer and one of the effects it has on my body is production of too much fluid. I have recently come out of hospital after having nearly three litres of fluid drained from around the right area of my lung but scans revealed that I have free fluid in my stomach cavity due to the same cause. Would any of the treatments mentioned in your article be any good for my condition. I am at the moment also suffering from a hiatus hernia which my GP thinks is a result of the fluid pushing my stomach up. I am finding it very difficult to eat and drink due to the fullness and discomfort caused by this. If they aren't suitable can you recommend something that will help. x

Dandelion Root Works Fast

Great article. Dandelion root (tea or tablets) is another awesome alternative and not too expensive. (Nature's Way at Whole Foods is $9.99 for 100 count tablets). It's even cheaper on Amazon.

Edema Remedy

I use tumeric - it's a natural anti-inflammatory used in curry dishes. The Chinese have been using it for 100's of years and you can get it in any drugstore (called Cucumin Bioperine). Bioperine is black pepper and this aids in the absorption.

I have had Lymphedema for years. I had knee surgery as a teen and over the years it's gotten worse. Dr put me on Lasix and potassium but this doesn't seem to help. I'm at the point where I want to cut a hole and drain it.

Swelling + Edema In Feet - 36 Weeks Pregnant

I am 36 weeks pregnant and have HORRIBLE swelling and edema in my feet. I was looking at the foot detox, where you soak your feet in water and it pulls out the toxins from your body, but saw that it is not recommended when you are pregnant. Do you have any other advice or tips similar to the detox one?

I also suffer from swelling in my hands, to the point where it feels like there is so much pressure in my finger tips as well as PUPPS.

Hi Tel.

An Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) foot soak is a great way to remedy swollen feet. And it's completely safe to use when you're pregnant. Magnesium is crucial for the control of fluid in the body, including the hands and feet. Mix ½ cup of Epsom salt in a foot tub filled with some warm water, then soak your swollen feet in this for 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat up to 3 times a week.

You could also try regular foot and hand massages. This is actually one of the best remedies for swollen feet and hands as it helps to improve circulation and encourages excess fluid drainage.

Rub some warm mustard oil, olive oil or ginger oil (the best) on the affected area. Gently massage for approximately 5 minutes in an upward direction. Be sure not to apply too much pressure though. Do this several times a day after taking a bath.

It may even be worth visiting a therapist who specializes in proper prenatal massage.
